Trio Ginga: Bio

Trio Ginga

Thanks for visiting our website. If you are a Brazilian music freak, you’ve come to the right place…because, that’s who we are too ...doing what we do best…Brazilian music.

Trio Ginga is the brainchild of me, Dann Sherrill. I am a drummer and percussionist who is known for following my interests in the music of the African Diaspora; beginning with American R&B and Jazz to the music of Brazil and Cuba…all this in a town known for Country Music…Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

Please don’t get me wrong. I love me some country music and continue to play and record it but, I need to have interesting things going on with the rhythm. Brazilian music provides my band mates and I just such an outlet. You’ll see what I mean when you get to our music page.

Trio Ginga is on an ongoing quest for authenticity and excellence in performing and recording Brazilian music. In our four years of existence we have evolved both musically and with personnel. Right now the trio includes the fantastic Otto Stoy on nylon string guitar, the inimitable Hubert Knight on all woodwinds and bass and then myself on all types of whacked out Brazilian percussion. I also play a lot of pandeiro (the Brazilian tambourine). We now have a new featured vocalist as well... Debora Brazil. Debora is from Florianopolis in the south of Brazil and is not only and excellent singer but she is a great fashion designer as well.

The band’s evolution began with Samba & Bossa Nova but has grown to include Samba Reggae, Forro, Baiao, Samba Choro, Axe and Braziian Popular Music (MPB).

Thank you for visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you on one of our upcoming gigs. Please come up and introduce yourself. Check back often for updates on where we are playing.

Keep the Ginga!
